How to Choose the Right Contractor to do the Job Right!

If you are planning on renovating your home or adding in a driveway or even putting in a pool and you don’t have the time to Do-It-Yourself, so you consider hiring a contractor to do the job for you. But you become unsure about how to do this. Do you choose the one who is cheaper is the one who is more expensive?

What Is a Contractor?

A contractor is someone or a firm that you will seek information from on the job you would like done. The contractor will generally give you a quote on how much the job will cost you. The quote is similar to a bid. You will normally phone 3 or 4 different contractor and you’ll receive 4 different quotes. These quotes are like bids. The contractor will bid his price and you will decide on which one will best suit your needs.

Once you have chosen a contractor he will then choose his own team of sub contractors to assist him or her with the job. The contractor can assist with the job or he may not it’s his choice. The bid that they normally quote the job with should be enough for him to pay his sub contractors and machine hiring.

Here are some helpful hints and considerations you should take in. they will help you choose the right contractor that will get the job done right.

Hint 1#

Talk to your friends, family and neighbours; ask them if they know a contractor who would be suitable for the job you may be after. They can recommend or know someone that generally knows another person that has used a contractor or actually is one. Word of mouth is the best source of information.

Hint 2 #

Generally speaking all contractors will give different price estimates. So try to get at least 5 too 10 estimates before you decide on the right person for the job. Some contractor can over charge you by hundreds to it are best to do some through research.

Do not straight forwardly accept the lowest bid. The cheaper price could result in cheaper materials being used for the job that may not even last a week!

Hint 3 #

Make sure the contractor is fully licensed. If you are not sure do some research or ask them to see their certification and qualifications.

Another important tip is to make sure they are fully insured. If they are not and they injure themselves both you and they could be in a lot of serious trouble. You can make certain that they do have insurance by contacting their insurer or asking to see proof of their liability insurance.

Hint 4 #

The most important consideration you should make is do I trust this person to work around my home? A contractor and his sub contractors can be around your home doing a job for days, weeks or months. Will you be able to trust this person to do the job right if you are at work or somewhere else? So study the person when you meet them, first impressions are always the best.

The 5th and final tip is the greatest of all! Do your homework right and you will find the right contractor that will get the job done right.
