Money Magazine Uses HRI Research to Promote The Value of Landscaping

Money Magazine, in its June issue, promotes the increase in home value and selling price that landscape improvements provide. The article quotes a Michigan State University study, funded by the Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), that found, “depending on where the house is located, high-quality landscaping adds 5 percent to 11 percent to its price.” Also quoted in the article is ANLA Landscape Division Board member, Chris Valenti, owner of JB Landscaping in Lewes, DE.

The article, written using sources provided by ANLA, promotes the fact that, “landscaping adds more value than almost any other home renovation.” Money Magazine also informs homeowners that even if they are not planning a move right away, “landscaping is the one home improvement that actually appreciates over time.” Other recommendations include investing in larger sized, unique material for a more significant impact, as well as annual color plantings and lawn fertilizing and maintenance.

According to Jonathan Bardzik, ANLA Director of Marketing and Industry Relations, “ANLA is pleased that Money Magazine contacted us, providing the opportunity to promote this industry and our members’ businesses and expertise.” Professor Bridget Behe, who was involved in the Michigan State University study, saw the Money Magazine article and commented, “I wanted to be sure that you knew how very much we appreciate the funding HRI gives consumer and market research studies and how much these results are needed by the industry.
