ARKANSAS STATE PARKS PAVING PROJECTS
Thanks to the state of Arkansas’s conservation fund, there have been numerous plans for many paving projects in the approximately 50 parks that are located in Arkansas. This program aims to continuously improve Arkansas’s parks and recreation areas; the reason is that there are so many important annual events held in the parks across the state. Some such events are; the Easter Jubilee, Antique Car Show, July Fourth on the Ridge, Fathers Day Treasure Hunt, Great Arkansas Clean-Up and the Bluegrass Weekend. |

Crowley ’s Ridge State Park along with Lake Frierson, which is five miles south of Crowley’s and has an area of 350 acres, are either in the middle of new paving constructions or are scheduled for new paving projects in the near future.
GOVERNOR McMATHS PAVING MISSION
The importance of paving in the state of Arkansas started with McMath who was elected Governor Arkansas in 1948. His administration put a focus on the infrastructure of Arkansas, and started extensive paving projects to cover the roads from the farms to the market place. McMath’s mission was to get Arkansas out of the mud and dirt, and to promote rural electrification. By paving the roads he would also increase the ease of trade between farmers and the city markets.
RE-PAVING THE DEPOT AT PRESSCOTT, ARKANSAS
In 2002, the Missouri Pacific Depot at Prescott, Arkansas, was to undergo a large renovation and restoration project. This was made possible by the Arkansas State highway Commission, as part of an Arkansas Transportation Enhancement program.
There is a long list of work that was carried out in this program, such as; wheelchair ramps, freight storage rooms, fire alarms and security systems were installed. Included in this long list were a few paving projects. The first was to re-pave the entrance with brick pavers so as to make a smoother path for wheelchairs. The second project was to re-pave the sidewalk of the Depot with Brick pavers, which over the years had replaced with concrete and asphalt. The idea was to get the Depot looking like it was in its original form, with Brick pavers.
