State of Illinois Concrete and Brick Pavers Codes for Construction......

In the State of Illinois there are many codes prepared for the application of Concrete and Brick pavers for local pavements, sidewalks and walkways. The department of Transportation in Illinois states that concrete and brick pavers should be laid on a well prepared sub-base, base or sub-grade.

The materials that should be commonly used are Fine aggregates, Edge Restraints and Concrete or brick pavers. The Fine aggregate should be sand, silica sand or slag sand. When the aggregate is used for the bedding it needs to have a gradation of FA 1 or FA 2. If it is used for filling the joints between pavers then it should have a gradation of FA 9.

When it comes to the Edge Restraints for sidewalks, it is advised to conform to the manufacturer’s recommendations. The edge restraints for pavements need to be a combination of concrete curbing and guttering.
